Racereport 2012-8: Desafío Ultra Trail-Running Ruta del Cóndor

What is the best imaginable update you could get after travelling 30 hours to a race?

Definite. The top news is that the race is cancelled – Nice one.

The weather in Santiago is way to bad since a couple of days (That yellow color on the picture is heavy rain…) and so the organization decided to terminate the 63k race on sunday.

Pretty hard luck for me!

Playa

Discovered the speedos and the swedish goggles at the bottom of my pack.
Robbed the ancient cruiser and took em to the strand.
Freezing was never better – Pacific you rock!

In the press: Sonntag Aktuell (Germany)

Last weekend the popular german daily newspaper „Stuttgarter Nachrichten“ re-released my article on the parkrun movement in their busy sunday edition „Sonntag Aktuell“.

Run loco – Run happy

Mauri from Trail Running Argentina and his GR-Team youngsters are just a gang of pleasant and passionate bunch of dudes.
Brooks Europe, the good and generous folks they are, just spoiled all the kids with a nice bag and some gifts.
Great to see how they appreciate the gear – GO GR-Team!

Podcasts

Recently I have been asked what I was listening to while running.

When I train with ears covered I barely listen to music. Most of the times various non-music mp3’s are bouncing within the plugs.

Some months ago I scripted a piece on running related podcasts for the German running magazine “RUNNING – Das Laufmagazin”. In this article I introduced the “Marathon Talk” (currently “Talk Ultra”), “Competitor Radio” and the “Marathon Show” podcasts.

But beside this three popular and merely running associated shows there is even more exciting audio material available these days. For example the past few months I have been busy listening mostly to the following five shows:

A. BBC World Service – Documentaries
B. Endurance Planet (Check the “ATU” slices featuring Lucho)
C. BBC World Service – HARDtalk
D. BBC Radio 4 – Profile (Make sure to check the episode from the 21st of April featuring Kraftwerks Ralf Hütter!)
E. The Off the Ball Football Show

I will post an updated list in a few months on new, worthy podcasts.

Feel free to send me your audio tips, I’m interested!

Isla del Sol

There it is – a spot-on splendor.

Set in the southern part of Lake Titicaca. The world’s highest lake (3820 m) is home to a real attraction – Isla del Sol.

I probably could compose a novel without any difficulty about the magic of that place. But as the pictures are so inspiring, I let them do the talking.

It was pretty hard to break all the unique impressions down to six trail related pictures. But as usual photographs show more than thousand words. And before anybody asks. Yes, that is the real color of the water!

Paramount Trail porn!

New Photographs!

Finally I found the time to upload various new photographs from the last couple of weeks on my tumblr site.

Go check ‘em out!

Coroico

No time in front of the computer. Way to busy enjoying Bolivia.

Racereport 2012-7: Yerba Buena a Tafí del Valle

It is still hard to believe what happened last Sunday.

When I reached Tafí del Valle after another stunning race the emotions took over.

While assisting a woman who fell whilst crossing one of the rivers, fellow runner Ignacio sadly lost his life.

My sincere thoughts and sympathies go to Ignacio’s family and all his friends from Córdoba.
